The story of how iüLabs began...
On the left of the picture you see Felix with his father, Alasdair. Without them, iüLabs probably wouldn't exist.
In 2014, four-year-old Felix was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) – a rare, genetic disease that leads to muscle weakness and wasting. There is currently no cure.
Felix's parents, Robyn and Alasdair, refused to accept this. Together with other parents – including Dr. Bob McDonald from the USA – they searched worldwide for ways to improve their children's quality of life.
At a scientific conference, Alasdair and Bob met Dr. Wolfgang Brysch , a neurobiologist and physician from Germany. At the time, Wolfgang was researching a molecule for the treatment of inflammatory diseases – with potential also for DMD, since the disease is accompanied by chronic inflammation in muscle tissue due to the genetic defect.
In the course of his work, he repeatedly encountered the health-promoting properties of secondary plant compounds – and at the same time their major challenge: their naturally low bioavailability.
His breakthrough: the development of a technology that significantly improves this absorption – later patented as SoluSmart®.
The parents' determination impressed Wolfgang so much that he acted immediately. Since the pharmaceutical molecule would not be available for years, he and his team developed a natural, scientifically sound dietary supplement to support the quality of life of boys with DMD.
After it was tested for safety, Felix and other children with DMD were able to try it shortly afterward.
The feedback was unexpectedly positive: more energy, better mobility, more joy in everyday life.
This experience was the starting point for iüLabs – and proof that it is possible to develop thoughtful, scientifically sound nutritional supplements that truly make a difference.
